Enabling/Disabling Compiz from command line

To disable Compiz on the command line:

Red Hat -> gconftool-2 --type string --set /apps/gnome-session/rh/window_manager "metacity"
Fedora ->
gconftool-2 --type string --set /apps/gnome-session/required_components/windowmanager "metacity"

To enable:

Red Hat -> gconftool-2 --type string --set /apps/gnome-session/rh/window_manager "compiz"
Fedora ->
gconftool-2 --type string --set /apps/gnome-session/required_components/windowmanager "compiz-gtk"

    Long options require two dashes like –set, NOT -set.

    Chris, yes, the tip worked for Red Hat only. Now I added the correct one for Fedora.

    I have similar problems which force me to disable compiz on my fedora 10.

    i , out of anxiety enabled desktop effects on fedora 10 and later found that the system has become very slow …scrolling is slow….etc

    i tried to find an option to disable desktop effects but in vain …a lot of googling helped me know that i had to disable compiz but how?????

    any help is appreciated
